Flexible thinking shapes the future.

Introduction

Go is a board game that has long been a part of traditional Japanese culture.
But did you know that Go is not just a game, but can also be an effective teaching tool for early childhood education?
In fact, Go has played a major role in the development of AI (artificial intelligence).
Go is a very complex game, and creating a strong enough player has been a major challenge to human intelligence.

Three Benefits of Go for Early Childhood Education

  • Improve the ability to think (logical thinking).
  • Develop concentration and perseverance.
  • Development of communication skills (social and cooperative).

Based on specific examples and research on these effects, I would like to demonstrate the necessity and potential of Go education.

Improve the ability to think (logical thinking).

In Go, you must consider your opponent's stone placement and forces, as well as your own objectives and strategies, when placing stones on your turn.
You must also anticipate your opponent's next move and what will happen next.
Thus, Go is a game that requires spatial imagery and logical thinking.
In fact, according to a study commissioned by Nihon Ki-in (Japan Go Association) to Professor Ryuta Kawashima of Tohoku University, elementary school students who knew nothing about Go took a weekly Go course for three months and were tested on cognitive functions before and after the course.
The results showed that their performance in "thinking ability," "short-term memory," and "overall work capacity" improved.
This improved ability to think is a useful skill in academics and in life.

Develop concentration and perseverance.

During a game of Go, you need to assess the situation on the board and think about the best moves to make, while predicting your own moves and those of your opponent.
Since each move affects the outcome of the game, it is necessary to think carefully.
Repeatedly playing games develops concentration and perseverance.
These enhance attention and persistence, which are useful in academics and life.

Development of communication skills (social and cooperative)

Because Go is a hobby that can be enjoyed by everyone from children to the elderly, it is also a useful communication tool.
In Go, communication is possible regardless of age, gender, or nationality.
Since Go is a globally loved game, it can also help with international communication.
Go is similar to a sport in that you can communicate through games even if you don't speak the same language.
Furthermore, Go is said to be effective in developing communication skills.
This is because it is important to read the opponent's intentions during the game, and it is hoped that this repetition will help the player to consider other people's feelings.
It is important for smooth communication to be able to understand people's feelings.

At the End

Incorporating Go into early childhood education has many benefits.
Go improves "the ability to think (logical thinking)," "concentration and perseverance," and "communication (social and cooperative skills)”.
These are skills that will be needed not only in academia and in life, but also in the future when we enter the workforce.
Since early childhood is a period of rapid brain development, it is believed that starting Go during this period will help develop the ability more effectively.
Why not expand your child's new possibilities by incorporating Go into his or her early childhood education?

What kind of game is Go?

If I were to use Go as an analogy, I would imagine it as "warfare in the Warring States Period".
The board is a "battlefield. But the battle doesn't start out of the blue.
First, you build a castle on the board. The castle will be the base for "attack" and "defense. The castle will be used as the base of operations.
Next, build a fort. A fort is a foothold from which to expand one's own forces or to invade an enemy stronghold.
Go is a game of "fighting for territory" rather than "surrounding territory".
The fun of Go is that you become a "military commander" and take command in "battles" on the board.

The preconceived notion that "Go is difficult" is correct.

Go is a game in which white and black stones are placed on the board to compete for territory.
Players surround their own territories on the board, and the player with the largest final enclosed territory wins.
The rules are very simple, but they are very deep, and players must make decisions and place stones on the board even when they do not know the correct answer.
In Go, the right and left brains are used to think about the next move, but no one ever arrives at the correct answer.
I have been playing Go for 50 years and I still have no idea where to play.
While I was a Go instructor for 10 years, I sincerely felt that it would be good if there were teaching materials that could help people easily understand the essence of Go.

”BlockGo" allows you to understand the essence of Go.

Go is a difficult game. However, if you remove the difficult elements, it becomes a simple game.
The loss of complexity makes the game less interesting, but it allows the player to understand the essence of Go.
By outputting the strategies drawn in your mind, you can train your "conceptual ability" and "spatial awareness”.
”BlockGo" will stimulate the intellectual curiosity of preschoolers and help them learn the essence of Go.
And after just one day of learning, you will be able to play the game.

Train the right brain (intuition).

Playing "BlockGo" will develop your "intuition" and enable you to break down difficult shapes (aspects) into combinations of simple shapes (aspects).
You may find it difficult at first, but if you take the first step with curiosity, there is an infinite world out there. Any preconceived notions of difficulty are unfounded, and new discoveries and knowledge will improve your ability to think.
They also improve their communication skills through interaction and competition with other players.
All of these factors are very important and essential for children's development.

Learning Values.

"BlockGo" is a game that can be played by children and the elderly alike, so it can be enjoyed by all generations.
Having people of different generations enjoy the same games promotes communication, builds interpersonal relationships, and teaches common values.
”BlockGo" will play a major role in the development of children.
Furthermore, through games, students can learn the importance of rules and manners and develop social skills.

The value of knowing Go.

What is the value of knowing BlockGo?
I believe it provides a bird's eye view of all events.
In a way, BlockGo players act like military strategists.
They create formations, assign roles, and develop tactics in a resourceful manner.
When facing difficulties or contradictions, learning BlockGo helps in making objective decisions.
The thought process developed from playing BlockGo is beneficial in both personal and business life.
If you find BlockGo difficult, trust yourself and make decisions even if you are unsure of the answer.
Through the process of decision-making, you can enhance your logical thinking skills and sharpen your intuition.
Ultimately, you will gain the power to shape your future.

I invented BlockGo to encourage the spread of the game of Go.
It is an accessible way for those unfamiliar with Go to learn about its appeals.
Playing BlockGo is a quick path to understanding Go.
My hope is that BlockGo will inspire people worldwide to discover the joy of playing Go.
